Wilmer G. "Wimp" Stoner, 79, of Scottdale, heard Jesus call his name Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, in Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Wilmer was born Feb. 12, 1936, in Tarrs in East Huntingdon Township, a son of the late Harry Harrison and Bertha Louise (Robaugh) Stoner. He married the former Joyce Ann Greer on Sept. 1, 1962. Wilmer loved the Lord, deeply revered his church and respected the American flag. He was a retired service technician with Farrell Gas for 32 years and a former maintenance employee at Kmart. Wilmer was a dedicated member of the 1st Assembly of God Church in Scottdale where he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher for 32 years, had perfect attendance for 30 years and was the VBS bus driver and song leader. A veteran of the Army, he served during peacetime at the beginning of the Vietnam War. He also enjoyed gardening and woodworking. Wilmer was a devoted husband for 53 years to Joyce Ann (Greer) Stoner; a terrific dad to Cindi Sue Hixenbaugh and her husband, Jim, of Perryopolis, Roger Gene Stoner and his wife, Susan, of Scottdale, and Aimee Joy Mitts and her husband, Jason, of Dawson; a grandfather to his grandsons, Adam Hixenbaugh, of Speers, Jordan Mitts, of the Navy, Austin Mitts, of Dawson, and Jacob Stoner, of Scottdale. He is also survived by his siblings, Rhoda Mae Crivella, of Tarrs, Ray Stoner and his wife, Darlene, of Tarrs, and Ruby Burton, of Mt. Pleasant; and his numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harry H. Stoner Jr. He was so easy to love and so many did. He said good night here, but good morning up there! Additional viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday in the 1st Assembly of God Church, Scottdale, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Domer Snyder officiating.
