Obituary

William H. Coffman, 85, of Mt. Pleasant, departed his earthly habitation Thursday, May 11, 2017, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg, in exchange for his heavenly home to live with his Lord and Savior forevermore. Bill was born Jan. 26, 1932, a son of the late William H. and Elizabeth (Wiltrout) Coffman. He married the former Beulah I. Pritts June 23, 1961. William graduated from Wilkinsburg High School, Class of 1949, then competed further training at the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics, where he obtained his A&P Mechanics License. Early in his vocational career, he worked with his father in an advertising business, Cabott & Coffman in Pittsburgh, then later together in a humidifier manufacturing business, Lewbill Industries in Scottdale. After his father passed away, Bill became self-employed as an aircraft mechanic and inspector until retirement. Bill's love of flying began at an early age where he soloed at the age of 16. His proudest moment in his flying career was when he was the copilot on a flight accompanying President Dwight D. Eisenhower to Arnold Palmer's 37th surprise birthday party in Latrobe. Bill previously attended Mt. Carmel Community Church. In addition to flying, he enjoyed photography, developing his own pictures before the age of digital photography, and had a collection of vintage cameras. Bill was an avid reader and also enjoyed watching World War II movies. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Alan Reid Coffman. Bill leaves behind his dear wife, Beulah (Pritts) Coffman; his devoted children, Todd Coffman, Kendra Coffman and Scott Coffman, all of Mt. Pleasant; his two brothers, John Richard Coffman and his wife, Mona, of Scottdale, and Thomas Coffman, of Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews.
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale, (724-887-5300, www.fergusonfunerals.com., GPS: N40 degrees 06.136, W79 degrees 35.278). Family and friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Monday in the funeral home chapel where funeral services will be held at noon Monday with Pastor Rick Fox officiating. Final resting place will be in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Bullskin Township.
