Obituary

WARREN H. BRUNNER, 97 formerly of Smithton (South Huntingdon Township), passed away Saturday morning, November 19, 2016 at Westmoreland Manor, Hempfield Township. Warren was born April 9, 1919 at Barren Run in South Huntingdon Township, a son of the late Walter M. and Minnie Louise (Huber) Brunner. He married the former Mary Adelaide Gibbons on March 24, 1942 and she passed away on February 27, 2015.

Warren was a devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a longtime and faithful member of the Barren Run United Methodist Church where he worshipped for 53 years, had served as chair of the administrative board for 28 years, and was a Sunday school teacher of the Men's Bible Class. Warren worked as a heavy equipment operator and was a member of the Operating Engineers Local #66. He was instrumental in the construction of the Samson Naval Base in New York during WWII. He also enjoyed gardening.

Warren will be sadly missed by his loving family; his six children, Diane L. Gelet of Ruffsdale, Peggy L. Hallsted and her husband Charles of La Quinta, CA, W. Thomas Brunner and his wife Judy of Scottdale, Doreen P. Roberts of La Quinta, CA, James R. Brunner and his wife Judy of Smithton, and Shelby J. Brunner of Signal Hill, CA; his seven grandchildren, Robert J. Kohuth Jr. and his wife Cathy, Brenton C. Hallsted and his wife Shelly, Tarra John and her husband Scott John, Courtney Dorreman and her husband Chief Petty Officer Richard Dorreman, Ann Marie Hoyle and her husband Kelly Hoyle, Christy Karr and her husband Russell Karr, and Kimberly Davis and her husband Larry Davis; his 12 great grandchildren; his three step great grandchildren; his sister, Ruth Brunner Lees of Illinois; his two nephews; and his niece. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his grandson, William W. Kohuth; his sister, Rosella Brunner Fulmer; and his two sons-in-law, Andrew Gelet and John Roberts.

Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 SPRING STREET, SCOTTDALE (724-887-5300 / www.fergusonfunerals.com / GPS: N40 degrees 06.136, W79 degrees 35.278). Family and friends will be received from 12-8 PM Monday in the funeral home chapel. Additional viewing will be held from 10-11 AM Tuesday in Barren Run United Methodist Church followed by funeral services at 11 AM Tuesday with Pastors John Logan and Dave Hixson co-officiating. Graveside committal service and interment will be in the church cemetery next to his late wife. The family suggests memorials to the Barren Run United Methodist Church and wishes to extend appreciation to Dr. Thomas DeGregory, the nurses and aides at Westmoreland Manor, and to Amedysis Home Care and their caregivers of Warren.
