Wallace R. Johnston, 93, of Scottdale, passed away at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023, in Hempfield Manor, Hempfield Township. Wallace was born Dec. 8, 1929, in Scottdale, a son of the late Hale W. and Polly A. (Chain) Johnston. He married Nancy Ann (Hough) Johnston on Aug. 18, 1950, and she passed away on June 11, 2014. Wallace was a devoted father and grandfather. He was employed as a machine shop foreman with U.S. Steel's McKeesport Works for more than 37 years, retiring in 1985. Wallace was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Community Church, where he served many years as deacon and a member of the missionary committee. He was a graduate of East Huntingdon High School and the Penn State University's McKeesport Campus. A veteran of the Korean War, he served as a corporal in the Marine Corps. Wallace enjoyed traveling, dining out, and taking vacations. Wallace will be sadly missed by his loving family: his son, Kevin R. Johnston and his wife, Amber, of Scottdale; his grandchildren, Larry Johnston, of Acme, Randy Johnston and his wife, Kelly, of Perryopolis, Aleigh Douroux, of Louisiana, and Haleigh Pennington, of Scottdale; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Jane Arment, Doris Taylor, Leslie Johnston, William Johnston and Rita Cook. Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale (www.fergusonfunerals.com). Family and friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Paul Haasz officiating.
