Obituary

Virginia (Ginny) L. Kochis, 80

of Greensburg (formerly of Mount Pleasant) passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at her residence surrounded by family. Virginia was born on

June 11, 1945 in Scottdale, a daughter of the late Harry C. and Frances J (Martz) Echard. She married the love of her life Joseph M. Kochis Sr. on February 25, 1967 who passed away on March 20, 2023.  Virginia was a very proud wife, mother, daughter, G.G., Dee, Sister, Aunt, cousin and friend.

Ginny will be sadly missed by her three children, Joseph M. Kochis, Jr. (Jody), Jeffrey A. Kochis (Emily), daughter Jaime M. Dengel (Jack) and her very special grandchildren, Owen, Claire, Dominic Kochis, Andy and Tommy Dengel, who meant the world to her.  She is survived by her beloved sister and brother Barbara (Larry) Smith and Donald (Shelby) Echard, nephews Christopher (Lisa) Smith and Jason (Yana) Smith, special cousins Norma Shallenberger, Mike Benyo, Rob (Jamie) Kowza, Nancy Weiss, and life-long friend Janie (Tony) Enos.  In addition to her parents and husband, Ginny was predeceased by her brother-in-law Robert (Bob) Kochis and her special cousin Mary Grace.  After graduating from Scottdale Joint High School in 1963 she joined the office team of Duraloy Steel for a few years before her true calling of being a Mom in 1970.  She attended every event, fund-raiser, and parent volunteer opportunity.   She served as Den Mother in Scouts (Pack 133), Band Parent, PTA member, elementary school guest reader, and event chaperone.  She made countless cookies for bake sales and spent countless hours on the bleachers watching her kids' and grandkids' playing sports.  Ginny was co-owner of Broad Street Dairy convenience store in South Greensburg with her husband Joe and Brother-in-law Bob where she worked regularly once her children were grown until retiring in 2005.  She enjoyed travelling with her husband, cousins and friends.  She was blessed to have one final getaway trip to Florida in early December with Norma.  Her hobbies were antiquing, listening to oldies, playing her organ, doing crossword puzzles, attending her grandchildens' activities, and playing daily Scrabble games with her beloved husband Joe.  She also spent many hours playing Scrabble with her daughter Jaime prior to her passing.   She will be remembered for cooking Sunday dinners and sending lots of leftovers home with everyone attending (You never knew what was inside her many repurposed butter and Cool Whip containers!!).  She was the ultimate host for holiday gatherings, birthdays, and overnight guests (at the "Inn" in her Mount Pleasant home).   Her friends will cherish their memories of going out to lunches, walks around Twin Lakes, and long talks either in person or on the phone.  She was a dear friend to all who met her.   Special thanks to Dr. Mark Williams of Scottdale for his extraordinary compassion and care during her final weeks as well as the Medi Home Hospice team.

Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 SPRING STREET, SCOTTDALE (www.fergusonfunerals.com). No public viewing.
