Virgil Edward Yoder, 92 of Greensburg (Hempfield Township)

passed away at 5:05 PM, Wednesday, November 27, 2024. Virgil will be dearly missed by his wife of 67 years, Rita H. (Nickel) Yoder; his two children, Janice Miller (William Quillen) and Jenifer (Tom) Garlitz; his grandchildren, Stephanie Miller (John) Lowry, Holly Oakley, and Justin Garlitz; and great-grandchildren Julian Nestor-Lowry, Joanna Lowry, and Cornel Lowry.

Virgil was born in August 28, 1932 in Newton, Kansas, a son of the late Edward and Estie (Miller) Yoder. He grew up in Scottdale, PA and was a lifelong member of the Scottdale Mennonite Church. Virgil graduated from Goshen College and the University of Rochester, then went on to a career as a medical radiation physicist. He was a skilled mathematician, calibrating radiation therapy doses prior to the availability of calculators. He spent most of his career at Magee Women's Hospital, where he helped start the radiation therapy department.

Virgil enjoyed travelling and was a gifted photographer of nature and candid portraits. His genealogy research took him to photograph Yoder family landmarks throughout Europe. He was a rally car enthusiast and an active member of the Blue Ridge Mountain Sports Car Club.
