Verna N. (Buttermore) Rhodes, 96, of Scottdale, East Huntingdon Township, passed away at 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021, in Amber House, Mt. Pleasant. Verna was born April 6, 1924, in South Huntingdon Township, a daughter of the late Homer and Olga (Glosser) Buttermore. She was married to Clyde C. Rhodes, who passed away Oct. 26, 1994. Verna was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a graduate of East Huntingdon High School, Class of 1942, and a longtime and faithful member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Scottdale. Verna enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, canning, gardening and reading. Verna will be sadly missed by her loving family; her daughter, Diane Faith and husband, David, of Latrobe; her granddaughter, Kayla Hawley and husband, Dyllan, of Uniontown; her great-grandchildren, Brylee, Westyn and Dawsyn Hawley; her stepson, David Rhodes and wife, Susan, of Florida; her step-grandchildren, Amanda Simon, Stacey Long and Bryan Rhodes; her step-great-grandchildren, Nolan Rhodes and Jace Long; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, William Buttermore and Mary Martha Rankin; and her special friend, Charles Snyder.
