Ronald E. Santmyer, 75 of Greensburg passed away at 6:38 PM Thursday, June 8, 2023 in Independence Health System's Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. Ron was born May 14, 1948 in Connellsville, a son of the late Eugene Warren and Ruth (Thomas) Santmyer. He married Pamela R. (Ramsier) Santmyer on January 15, 1972.
Ron was a graduate of Southmoreland High School, Class of 1966, the Frederick Mason Beauty Academy in Uniontown, and the Salvation Army College of New York in 1974. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict from 1966-1969. Following his military service, he was employed as a Major in the Salvation Army for 37 1/2 years throughout Western Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, Maine, and Connecticut. He retired as Assistance Finance Secretary with the Salvation Army's Philadelphia Headquarters' Pendel Division. Ron enjoyed painting and spending time with his wife and loyal dog, Maggie Mae.
Ron will be sadly missed by his devoted and loving family; his wife of 51 years, Pamela R. (Ramsier) Santmyer; his son, Jeffery E. Santmyer of Greensburg; his daughter, Jody L. Bummer and husband James of Pittsburgh; his sister-in-law, Susan Koscielski and husband Gene of Greensburg; his niece, Renee Bock and husband Bryan; his nephew, Craig Koscielski and wife Vanessa; and his great niece and nephew, Mackenzee and Camden.
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 SPRING STREET, SCOTTDALE (www.fergusonfunerals.com). Family and friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Monday and from 10-11 AM Tuesday in the funeral home chapel where funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday with Cadet Thomas Perez officiating. Interment will be in the VA Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. Love Lasts Forever!
