Ronald E. "Slick" Addis Sr., 91 of Vanderbilt, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 6, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
Ron was born August 5, 1925, a son of the late John Wade Addis Sr. and Helen Louise (Rohm) Addis.
He was very devoted to his wife, Geraldine Rae "Gerri" (Shazer) Addis, who passed away in 2007.
Ron was retired from the P= Railroad where he worked as a conductor. He was a member of the Vanderbilt United Methodist Church and a life member of the DL&V Fire Department. Ron graduated from Dunbar High School, Class of 1943 and served in the US Navy from 1943-1946 as a Radioman, 3rd Class Petty Officer during WWII. He was awarded the Good Conduct, American Campaign, Asiatic Pacific, Philippine Liberation, and WWII Victory Medals.
Ron loved baseball, football, hunting, and going to Cameron County to camp. He served on the Vanderbilt Borough Council, the Dawson-Vanderbilt School Board, and the Connellsville Area School Board. He also held memberships in the American Legion Post #586, the United Transportation Union and was a life member of both the Connellsville Elks Lodge #503 and the Connellsville VFW Post #21.
Ron will be sadly missed by his loving family: his children, Saundra Majic and her husband Jack of Fairmont, W.Va. and Ron Addis Jr. and his wife Leona of Vanderbilt; his four grandchildren, Ryan Majic and his girlfriend Jamie and Aron Majic and his wife, Courtney, all of Fairmont, W.Va., Ronald Addis III of Vanderbilt, and Rachael (Addis) Christopher and her husband Andrew of Connellsville; his two great-grandchildren, Jack Majic and Colson Christopher; his brother, Lee B. Addis and his wife, Anna Marie of Valparaiso, In., his brother-in-law, Jerry Leighty of Bethlehem; his sister-in-law, Betty Lou Addis of Connellsville and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded indeath by his siblings, John W. "Turp", Russell C. "Red", Franklin R. "Rosy", and Floyd D. "Dusty" Addis and Marjorie J. Leighty.

Family and friends will be received from 1-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Rob Rabenstein and Rev. Dr. Marvin Watson co-officiating. Chapel committal service and interment will follow in Dickerson Run Cemetery with full military honors bestowed by the Connellsville VFW Post 21.
