Obituary

Robert E. Stoner, 87 of Scottdale (East Huntingdon Township), husband of Doris (Geyer) Stoner, passed away at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2023, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. Bob was born July 13, 1935, in Scottdale, a son of the late David W. and Evelyn M. (Kridle) Stoner. He married Doris J. (Geyer) Stoner on Aug. 2, 1958. Bob was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He graduated from Scottdale High School, Class of 1953, and received an associate's degree in engineering from Penn State University. Bob was employed as the plant manager at Detroit Mold & Engineering (DME) in Youngwood and previously worked at Alloyed Welding near Lewistown. He was a lifelong member of Christ United Methodist Church in Scottdale where he was an active worker serving spaghetti dinners. A veteran of the Army, he served his country during peacetime and in the early stages of the Vietnam Conflict. Bob was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Marion Masonic Lodge 562, a life member of the Scottdale Volunteer Fire Department, a life member of the East Huntingdon Sportsman's Association, along with memberships in the NRA and the National Wild Turkey Federation. He also enjoyed doing lawn work at his home in East Huntingdon Township and for many years, spent time at the 8-Point Camp in Marionville. Bob will be sadly missed by his loving family; his wife of 64 years, Doris J. (Geyer) Stoner; his son, Jason Stoner and wife, Tricia, of Lexington, S.C.; his two grandsons, Landon and Benjamin Stoner; and their mother, Jennifer Nates (Marvin); his sister, Karen Hermes, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; his brother-in-law, Edward Geyer; and his loyal dog, Rasty. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Riley; and an infant sister. Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME,105 Spring St., Scottdale ( www.fergusonfunerals.com ). Family and friends will be received from 3 to 7p.m. Friday and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Shawn Robbins and Pastor Kathy Barnhart co-officiating. Graveside committal service and interment will be in Mount Olive Cemetery. The Scottdale-Everson Honor Guard will bestow full military honors in the funeral home prior to the funeral service. Memorials may be offered to the Scottdale VFD or East Huntingdon Sportsman's Association. Love Lasts Forever.
