Robert E. Miller I, 94, of Scottdale, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, in Redstone Highlands, Murrysville. Bob was born May 13, 1922, in Yukon, a son of the late Henry Frank and Annie M. (Bollinger) Miller. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jane (Weisgerber) Miller (March 30, 1993); and his second wife, Phyllis L. (Santmyer) Miller (March 26, 2002). Bob was a devoted father and grandfather. He was a retired educator with the Southmoreland School System, where he taught for 27 years, having previously taught at the East Huntingdon High School for four years. Bob was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Scottdale, where he acted as a lay preacher for many years and played a leadership role with the Scottdale Christian Men's group. He served many years at the Boy Scout Camp Conestoga in Somerset, serving 20 years as director of the summer camp, followed by many years as a chaplain and eager volunteer. Bob will be sadly missed by his loving family: his brother, Calvin Miller, of Mt. Pleasant; his children, Jerrilyn Miller, of Hinesburg, Vt., Betty Barbery, of Scottdale, Robert E. (Rosemarie) Miller II, of Simi Valley, Calif., and Kenneth F. (Joyce) Miller, of Hamlin, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Lora Coble, of Grantham, N.H., Lisa (Coble) Phillips, of Barberino Val d'Elsa, Italy, Kendra (Barbery) Burrows, of Eugene, Ore., Steven (Lisa) Barbery, of Yorktown, Va., Ron (Mary) Miller, of Cortland, N.Y., Tom (Laura) Miller, of Mumford, N.Y., Kirstin (Miller) Parris, of Simi Valley, and Candice Miller, of Simi Valley; his 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, with his pastor, the Rev. Harry Speakman officiating. Graveside committal service and interment will be in Scottdale Cemetery.
