September 1, 1942 – January 23, 2023
Robert A. Firestone Sr., 80, of Scottdale, passed away Monday, Jan. 23, 2023, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. Bob was born Sept. 1, 1942, in Meyersdale, Somerset County, a son of the late Elroy Hill and Evelyn Mae (Lape) Firestone. He was married to Edna L. (Smith) Firestone, who passed away on July 25, 2015.
Bob was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a graduate of Scottdale High School, Class of 1960 and was retired from Waste Management, where he was employed as a driver for over 20 years. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Bob served as a private during the Vietnam War and was a certified marksman. He also served in the Army Reserves and the Pennsylvania National Guard, 1st Battalion, 110th Infantry. Bob was an ardent Trump supporter and member and past officer with the Scottdale American Legion Post. He enjoyed people watching from his front porch on South Broadway.
Bob will be sadly missed by his loving family, his five children, Lisa Derbaum and husband Dennis of Chesapeake, Va., Nancy Stepinsky of Scottdale, Wendy Van Dyke and her husband Howard of Tarrs, Robert A. Firestone Jr. of Scottdale, and Karen Firestone and her fiancé, Mike Hoza of Youngwood; his stepson, Kenneth Shea of Mt. Pleasant; his six grandchildren, John, Madison, Ashlyn, Cody, Howard, and Matthew; and his great-grandson. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Joyce Mills and James Firestone.
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 SPRING ST. , SCOTTDALE ( www.fergusonfunerals.com ). Family and friends will be received from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel followed by funeral services at 5 p.m. Thursday with Pastor Tom Shirer officiating. The Scottdale-Everson Honor Guard will bestow full military honors in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to: Westmoreland Food Bank or the Wounded Warriors Project. Love Lasts Forever!
