Obituary

Robert D. "Peep" Miller, 85, of Alverton, East Huntingdon Township, passed away Thursday, Sept. 17, 2015, at his residence. Peep was born Nov. 6, 1929, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late William J. and Clara (McCracken) Miller. He married the former Joan Fretts July 7, 1956. Peep was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He retired from Duraloy Blaw-Knox in Scottdale in 1977 after 22 years of service, working as a foundry laborer. A Korean War veteran, having served with the Air Force as an airman 1st class, he was awarded the Korean, UN and National Service Medals and the Good Conduct Medal. Peep was a member of the American Legion Post No. 446 and the VFW, Post No. 3368, both of Mt. Pleasant. A graduate of East Huntingdon High School, Class of 1948, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Peep will be sadly missed by his loving family: his wife of 59 years, Joan (Fretts) Miller; his two daughters, Sheree Lynn Shumar and her husband, Richard, of Alverton and Debra Lee Miller of Scottdale; his granddaughter, Maria Lynn Pitonyak and husband Erwin of Connellsville; his brother, Albert Miller and wife Ruthann of Alverton; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Homer, William, Raymond and Harry Miller. Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, with Pastor Neil Stevens officiating. Chapel committal services and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Bullskin Township, with full military honors bestowed by the Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post No. 446.
