Rita Jane (Newcomer) Bornstein, 71 of Connellsville passed away at 12:52 AM Saturday, February 19, 2022 in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV. Rita was born May 26, 1950 in Connellsville, a daughter of the late Clyde W. and Rita Virginia (Shandorf) Newcomer, who passed away on December 24, 2000 and March 3, 2007 respectively. She married Edward M. "Ed" Bornstein on July 19, 1981.
Rita was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister. She graduated from Southmoreland High School, Class of 1968 and became a registered nurse following her education at the Washington School of Nursing. Rita was proprietor, along with her husband Ed of the WestSide News in Connellsville for over 35 years and also served as the Health & Code Inspector for the City of Connellsville. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Rita will be sadly missed by her loving family; her husband of 40 years, Edward M. "Ed" Bornstein; her two children, Ralph Monahan (Amy) of Newport News, VA and Lisa Monahan (Tony) of Connellsville; her five grandchildren, Ashley, Alyssa, Hannah, Abigail, and Luke; her two great grandchildren, Caston and Susie; her siblings, Linda Jezewski, Lois Herlihy (John), Marsha Decaria (Vince), Paula Gismondi (Martin), Sharon Barclay (Barry), Beverly Stup (Jim), Kevin Newcomer (Laurie), Sheila Zimmerman (Tim), Nancy Johnson (John), and Laura Newcomer (Nathan); numerous nieces and nephews; and her constant companion canine, Peanut. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Claudia Webb; and her four brothers, Clyde Jr., Kenneth, Roger, and Larry Newcomer.
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 SPRING STREET, SCOTTDALE (www.fergusonfunerals.com). Family and friends will be received from 6-8 PM Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. Funeral services will be private with final resting place in St. John's RC Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: WVU Children's Medical Center at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Medical Center Drive, Morgantown, WV 26506. Love Lasts Forever!
