Obituary

Richard M. O'Hanlon Jr.

Beloved husband, Dad, PapPap, and brother Richard Martin O'Hanlon, Jr. of Latrobe died on May 26, 2025.

Born to Donna and Richard O'Hanlon, Sr. on January 27, 1948 in Pittsburgh, Rich loved going to the Buhl Planetarium and Aviary on his way home from elementary school.  He often spoke about his early childhood on the Northside.

Rich was a veteran of the Navy and served on air craft carriers as an Avionics Technician.  While stationed in Philadelphia, Rich met the love of his life, Celeste, on a bus, while she was visiting family.  The two were married on June 7, 1969.

Rich took his skills from the Navy and created a successful career as a mechanic and an electrician in the mining industry.  He then returned to school and graduated from California University of Pennsylvania in 1995.  He had a successful second career as an electrical engineer in both the medical device field and then protecting miner safety with the Mine Safety and Health Administration.  He retired in 2019 to focus on family and hobbies.

Rich adored his grandchildren, Mylah, Kieran, and Adalyn, and took great pleasure and pride in their growth and accomplishments. Whether on a trip or a staycation, Rich loved spending quality time with his family.  Rich was a talented nature photographer (whose family sometimes consented to being his subjects) and he had been active in his photography club and showing his photographs.

Rich instilled in his family love of learning, science fiction & fantasy, nature, science, music, reading, humor, and good citizenship.

Rich is survived by his wife Celeste, daughter Melodie and son-in-law PJ, son Matthew and daughter-in-law Bobbi Jo, grandchildren Mylah, Kieran, and Adalyn, brother Randy, sister Margaret, and cherished dog Izzy.

To honor Rich's wishes, no services will be held.  He was deeply loved and will be infinitely missed.
