Richard C. Brown, 87, of Mt. Nebo, Scottdale, passed away at 10:57 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at his residence. Dick was born Feb. 4, 1934, in East Huntingdon Township, a son of the late Clarence L. and Muriel Corrine (Hough) Brown. He was married to Thelma G. (Torrance) Brown, who passed away Oct. 4, 2013. Dick was a devoted father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He retired from Penn Line Service, Scottdale, May 2, 1997, after 35 years of service as an equipment coordinator. Years ago, he worked for U.S. Steel. He was a lifelong and faithful member of the Mt. Nebo Community Church, formerly Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church, and a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving as a corporal in the Army. He was awarded the Presidential Citation from Korea, Good Conduct Medal, United Nations, National Defense and Korean Service Medals. He also served as a sergeant first class in the National Guard Reserves from 1955 to 1959. Dick was a 32nd degree Mason with F&AM Masonic Lodge No. 563, a lifetime member of Brookman-Hernley VFW Post No. 7781 and BPO Elks Lodge No. 777, Scottdale, where he was recognized as man of the year in 1995. He enjoyed spending time with his family and at his cabin. Dick will be sadly missed by his loving family; his three daughters, Amy Herman, of Connellsville, Gina Collins and, husband, James, of Mt. Pleasant, and Kari Johnson and husband, David, of Scottdale; his five grandchildren, Ryan Maceyko, Tiffany Dykiel and husband, Timmy, Amanda Nicholson and husband, Bryce, Alyssa Johnson and fiance, Christopher Jones, and Brandon Collins; his brother, Ernest "Ernie" Brown, of Scottdale; his sister, Shirley Kimball, of Williamsburg, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Richard C. Brown Jr., Oct. 19, 2007; his brothers, Clarence, Karl, Dwight and Dale Brown; and his sisters, Dawn Elaine Brown and Corrine Cunnard. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, the hour of funeral services, in the funeral home with Pastor Greg Butler officiating. Graveside committal service and interment will follow in Scottdale Cemetery next to his late wife with full military honors bestowed by the Scottdale-Everson Honor Guard. The Scottdale Elks Lodge No. 777 will hold a memorial service Saturday evening in the funeral home. Love Lasts Forever!
