Obituary

Reta G. (Clegg) Suter, 77, of Ruffsdale, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, in Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Reta was born Nov. 7, 1938, in New Martinsville, W.Va., a daughter of Gladys O. (Baxter) Clegg, of Moundsville, W.Va., and the late Clarence E. Clegg. She married Joel B. Suter on Jan. 19, 1973. Reta was a devoted wife and a retired educator, teaching at Turkeyfoot Valley School District and retiring from Connellsville Area School District. She was a graduate of Magnolia High School in New Martinsville, W.Va., and received a BA degree in education from West Virginia University. Reta was a longtime and faithful member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Scottdale and an active member of the fellowship class. She was also a member of the Saturday Afternoon Club and enjoyed oil painting, gardening and spending time with her dog, Max. Reta will be sadly missed by her loving family: her husband of 43 years, Joel B. Suter; her mother, Gladys O. (Baxter) Clegg; her brother, Raymond Clegg and his wife, Bonnie, of Caldwell, Ohio; and several nephews and nieces, Nathan, Daniel and Matthew Westfall, Heather Blake and Hillary Hess. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Westfall; and her father and mother-in-law, Quintin and Margaret (Sherbondy) Suter. Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. Family and friends will be received from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with her pastor, the Rev. Daniel Clark, officiating. Private interment will be in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery at Tarrs. Memorials may be made to: St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 600 Mulberry St., Scottdale, PA 15683.
