Obituary

Philip M. Benedict, 81, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away at 9:20 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, in Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Philip was born July 21, 1935, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late John P. and Florence E. (Morrocco) Benedict, who passed away in October 1969 and September 1990, respectively. Philip was a loving brother and cousin. He graduated from Ramsay High School, class of 1954, and served from 1954 to 1957 in the Army during the Korean Conflict as a Specialist 3rd Class Technician. His service included a tour of duty in Germany, and he was assigned as an investigator to the Graves Registration Unit. He was also awarded the Good Conduct Medal. Philip was previously employed at Modulus Corp. for 10 years and was a faithful member of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant. He was a member of the Fireman's Club since 1962 and the American Legion Post No. 446, both in Mt. Pleasant. Philip loved music, especially listening to Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Philip will be sadly missed by his devoted family, his sister, Theresa A. Benedict, of Mt. Pleasant, and numerous loving cousins of both the Benedict and Morrocco families.
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale (724-887-5300, www.fergusonfunerals.com, GPS: N40 degrees 06.136, W79 degrees 35.278). Family and friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel where parting prayers will be recited at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. A funeral Mass will follow at noon Tuesday in Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Richard Kosisko as celebrant. Graveside committal service and interment will be in the partner parish of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, Scottdale, with full military honors bestowed by the burial detail of the American Legion Post No. 446, Mt. Pleasant. A parish wake service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel.
