Obituary

Pauline M. Oravetz, 88, of Hunker, formerly of Scottdale, passed away surrounded by her loving family at 1:15 pm, Friday, July 17, 2015, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital. Pauline was born Jan. 19, 1927, at Alverton in East Huntingdon Township, a daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Kreminski) Shubra. She was married to Samuel F. Oravetz I, who passed away on July 28, 1985. Pauline was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a retired medical secretary working in the coronary care unit at Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. A graduate of East Huntingdon High School, class of 1945, Pauline was a faithful member of the Partner Parish of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Scottdale and in recent years attended Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church in Youngwood. She served as a volunteer with the Westmoreland County Food Bank and the Scottdale area meals on wheels program. Pauline enjoyed working crossword puzzles, cooking, and sewing. Pauline will be sadly missed by her loving family: her two children, Stephen Oravetz and wife, Carol, of Ligonier, and Deborah Zombar, of Hunker; her three grandchildren, Samuel F. Oravetz III and wife, Angela, Nathan Oravetz and wife, Jessica, and Michael Zombar and special companion, Bobbi Jo Akins; her two great-grandchildren, Colin Oravetz and Oliver Oravetz; her sister-in-law, Dolores Shubra, of Timonium, Md.; her former son-in-law, John Zombar I, of New Stanton; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son; her son, Samuel F. Oravetz II (June 1, 2013); her two grandchildren, John D. Zombar II (May 30, 1980) and Laura Zombar (June 26, 1985); her twin great-grandchildren, Cecilia and Basil Oravetz (Oct. 7, 2013); her two brothers, Charles and Joseph Shubra; and her sister, Nell Misiewicz. Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring Street, Scottdale (724-887-5300 / www.fergusonfunerals.com / GPS: N40 degrees 06.136, W70 degrees 35.278). Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel where parting prayers will held at 10:30 a.m. Funeral mass will follow at 11 a.m. Monday in the Partner Parish of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Scottdale, with the Rev. Andrew Kawecki as celebrant. Graveside committal service and interment will be in the church cemetery next to her late husband.
