Obituary

Merritt L. Kelly, 96 of WoodcrestCircle, Scottdale passed away at 12:12 PM Sunday, June 4, 2023 in the Independence Health System's Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. Merritt was born on April 22, 1927 in Mo not Pleasant, a son of the late Leo and Luella (Poorbaugh) Kelly. He married Mary Lou "Mitzi" (Sturtz) Kelly on March 28, 1951 and they were married for 69 years before her passing on December 17, 2020.


Merritt was a devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He retired from the former Robertshaw Controls in New Stanton where he was employed for 46 years and a machine operator and inspector. Merritt was a longtime and faithful member of the Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ in Scottdale where  he served as an elder and played on the dartball team. He also was past president of the consistory. Merritt worked at Glengary Golf Course where he also played regularly. He also served on the Board of Directors at the Starwood Credit Union, was a member of the Robertshaw Retirees, and enjoyed many winters in St. Augustine, FL, vacationing with his wife Mitzi. A proud veteran of WWII, Merritt served his country in Europe with the US Army's 5th Field Artillery & 1st Division Military Police.


Merritt will be sadly missed by his loving family; his three children,  David W. Kelly and wife Patti of Scottdale, Diane L. Kelly of Mt. Pleasant, and Donald P. Kelly and wife Shari of Greensburg; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

At the request of the decedent, there will be no viewing. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. His final resting place will be in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery at Tarrs.
