Meredith Porter (Ware) Wise, 89, of Mobile, Ala., formerly of Scottdale, passed away Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, in the Lynnwood Nursing Center, Mobile, Ala. Meredith was born July 19, 1927, in Scottdale, a daughter of the late Russell and Lucille (Porter) Ware. She was married to William J. Wise who passed away March 14, 2015. Meredith was a graduate of Scottdale High School, Class of 1945, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the West Penn Hospital School of Nursing. She served as nurse in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. Attaining the rank of Lieutenant, she was commissioned to Japan, Guam and the US Naval Hospital in Quantico, Va., from July 1951 to April 1958. Meredith was also a longtime and faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Scottdale. Meredith will be sadly missed by her loving family and is survived by a niece and five nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Robert James Ware and Keith Porter Ware.

At the request of the decedent, there will be no viewing or visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Scottdale Cemetery with the Rev. Harry Speakman officiating. The Scottdale-Everson Honor Guard will bestow full military honors following the service.
