Mary Lou
“Mitzi” Kelly
May 9, 1930 – December 17, 2020
Mary Lou "Mitzi" Kelly, 90, of Scottdale, passed away peacefully at 4:44 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020, in Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Mitzi was born May 9, 1930, in Youngwood, a daughter of the late Edgar and Mary Lou (Seaman) Sturtz. She married Merritt L. Kelly on March 28, 1951. Mitzi was a kind, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She graduated from Youngwood High School, Class of 1948 and retired from Southmoreland School District where she was employed as the manager of the junior high school cafeteria. Mitzi was a longtime and faithful member of Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ in Scottdale and an active member of the Women's Guild. She was a former Girl Scout troop leader, and for 18 winters, she vacationed in St. Augustine, Fla., with her husband, Merritt. Mitzi enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cooking, making candy, sharing recipes, baking fancy cakes and cinnamon rolls, and took pleasure in sending out greeting cards for every occasion. Mitzi will be sadly missed by her loving family: her husband of 69 years, Merritt L. Kelly; her three children, David W. Kelly and wife, Patti, of Scottdale, Diane L. Kelly, of Mt. Pleasant, and Donald P. Kelly and wife, Shari, of Greensburg; her five grandchildren, Stacey and Hunter McErlane, and Tyler, Breanna, and Ryan Kelly; her great-grandchild, Dominik McErlane; her four stepgrandchildren, Patrick Raygor, Brittni George, Brianna Mae Raygor and Abbie Joy Pfrogner; several stepgreat-grandchildren; her sister, Ann Green, of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three siblings, Lorrie Barron, Lillian Thomas and William Sturtz. Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale ( 724-887-5300 / http://www.fergusonfunerals.com ). At Mitzi's request, there will be no viewing or visitation. A memorial service will be held at a late date. Her final resting place will be in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery at Tarrs. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Scottdale Public Library or Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Excela Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate and caring nurses. Love Lasts Forever!
