Mary R. Cottom, 70, of Vanderbilt (Franklin Township), passed away at 9:11 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at her residence. Mary was born on Sept. 29, 1954, in Painesville, Ohio, a daughter of the late Maurice and Lorraine (Jordan) Strickler. She married John W. Cottom on Aug. 29, 1970 and he survives her.

Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who was employed in the food service department at Highlands Hospital in Connellsville for 12 years. Quoted Mary: "God was so good when he surrounded me with the best of the best, and am Thankful everyday. As hard as I worked, I loved what I did, helping people. I was very proud of myself…it wasn't about me, it was about all the sick people in the building that needed me. I cared so much…I was grateful at my job!"

Mary also enjoyed going to casinos and the companionship of her two grand puppies, Joker and Hazel.

Mary will be sadly missed by her loving family, her husband of 54 years, John W. Cottom; her son, John W. Cottom Jr. and his wife Denise of Vanderbilt; her granddaughter, Lauren Hussar and her husband Denny of Belle Vernon; her two sisters, Linda Burke and her husband Brian and Star Weimer; her three brothers, Tom Strickler and his wife Donna, Wade Strickler and his wife Liz, and Maurice "Buddy" Strickler; her sister-in-law, Brenda Soverns; her brother-in-law, Do lad "Cork" Cottom; and her numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
