Lois M. (Burkey) Pekonen, 85, of Mt. Pleasant, East Huntingdon Township, wife of Robert R. "Bob" Pekonen, passed away at 10:55 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2022, in Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Lois was born May 2, 1936, in Smithton, a daughter of the late Edward and Garnet (Smith) Burkey. She married Robert R. "Bob" Pekonen on Oct. 19, 1957. Lois was a devoted wife, mother and sister. She graduated from South Huntingdon High School, Class of 1955, and was a member, along with her husband at Fairview Church of God. She worshipped there, sang in the choir and was a soloist for many weddings and funerals through the years. Louis enjoyed cooking, baking, traveling to the Dutch Country and had a fond affection towards animals and her pets. Lois will be sadly missed by her loving family; her husband of 64 years, Robert R. "Bob" Pekonen; her two daughters, LuAnn Pekonen, of Greensburg, and Lorraine Zuraw and husband, Rick, of Las Vegas, Nev.; her brother, Robert Burkey and wife, Paulette, of RuffsDale; her sister-in-law, Jane Hahn and husband, John, of Perryopolis; and her nieces, great-nieces, and great-nephew. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Lewis Burkey. Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of ROBERT B. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Dana Clay officiating. Chapel committal service and interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery.
