It is with heavy hearts, we say goodbye to Joseph W. Ray, 79, of Champion, who passed away on April 20, 2022, at 10 p.m. in his home.

He was born March 15, 1943, in Mount Pleasant, a son of the late Joseph W. Ray and Audrey W. (Wilson) Ray, the first of seven children.

He graduated from Ramsey High School in 1960 and then went on to join the Marines, where he bravely fought in Vietnam from 1963-1964. After being honorably discharged, he continued his education and received his bachelors and masters' degrees from California University of Pennsylvania. He worked at Volkswagen from 1978-1988, when the factory closed. He then continued to serve his country as an educator for over 30 years at Fairfax and Prince William Counties in Virginia.

Joseph leaves behind his wife, Donna R. Ray of 53 years, who cared for him during his final years with all the compassion, love, and strength in the world. He also leaves behind his three children, Joseph L. Ray, Kimberly J. Ray, and Kathy J. Ray; his grandson, Nathaniel J. Ray; and his best buddy, Bubba (the family fur baby); his siblings, Becky and James.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Deborah and Candy; and his brothers, David and Dennis.

His family would like to thank all his doctors, nurses, and hospice staff that helped care for him during his battle with multiple myeloma.
