John A. McCovish, 80, of Dawson, passed away at 8:52 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, 2019, in Anna Lisa's Touch of Home, Perryopolis.
John was born April 3, 1938, in Roscoe, a son of the late Andrew and Anna (Warholic) McCovish.
He married Carol J. (McKnight) McCovish on Aug. 19, 1971.
John was a devoted husband and father. He was employed for many years at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel in Allenport, from which he retired in 2000. A graduate of California High School, Class of 1957, John was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church in Scottdale, playing on the church dartball team. He was a loyal member of many area fire departments, including Roscoe, Finleyville, Dawson, and DLV. He also was active in the Dawson-Vanderbilt Lions Club and enjoyed attending the Brownfield Community Center events. John took pleasure in relaxing with his family at their Big Bear Camplands camping spot in Bruceton Mills, W.Va.
John will be sadly missed by his loving family: his wife of 47 1/2 years, Carol J. (McKnight) McCovish; his two children, Jean Ann and Jerome A. McCovish; and many Tri-Town community friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerome Michael Mc- Covish.
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the Ralph E. Galley Funeral Home, 501 Railroad St., Dawson, 724- 529-2611, www.fergusonfunerals.com . Family and friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. Thursday and from 10-11 a.m. Friday, the hour of service, in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Joshua Boyd and the Rev. Dr. Marvin Watson co-officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a fire department of one's choice.
