John Vincent Cusick, 80, of West Newton, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. John was born Jan. 31, 1936, in McKeesport, the son of the late Vincent Anthony Cusick and Lois J. Alexander Cusick Conover. He married the former Marilyn Jane Luppold, Dec. 28, 1955. John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He worked as a trunk forecast engineer with Bell Atlantic, retiring in 1988. A faithful member of First United Methodist Church in West Newton, John was also active as a member of the West Newton Lions Club, Westmoreland Yough Trail Chapter, Telephone Pioneers, American Legion Post, Over the Hill Gang; he also served as a director with the Regional Trail Corp. He attended Brentwwod High School, graduated from St. Vincent Prep and attended Penn State University. An Army veteran, he served as a sergeant first class during peacetime. John will be sadly missed by his loving family: his wife of 60 years, Marilyn Jane (Luppold) Cusick; his three children, Robert Walton Cusick, of Hollywood, Md., Holly Cusick Sawyer and husband, Jerry, and Suzanne Cusick Luikart and husband, Chris, all of West Newton; his six grandchildren, Kris, David (Kara) and Kyle Cusick, Jeremy (Nicole) and Caitlin Sawyer and Grace Luikart; and his great-granddaughter, Kaelyn Mae Cusick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine Cusick Clifford; and his daughter-in-law, Carol Farthing Cusick. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church, West Newton, followed by a memorial service at 10 a.m., with the Rev. William B. Meekins Jr. and the Rev. Rhea Summit co-officiating. Final resting place will be in West Newton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to West Newton First United Methodist Church Trustees, St. Vincent College Herbert W.
