Obituary
John G. Boshinsky
1930 - 2016
John G. Boshinsky, 85, of Everson, passed away his way at 12:20 a.m., Saturday, May 28, 2016, at home, after an arduous battle with Parkinson's disease and many other afflictions. A stubborn man, he fought like a warrior to the end unafraid. Heaven has gained one of the mighty ones. John was born in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Max and Sarah (Guzik) Boshinsky, on July 28, 1930. He graduated from Hurst High School in 1948. Later he went on to join the Army, where he proudly served our country during the Korean War in the 24th Infantry Division, Signal Company, as a wire electronics repairman. While there he received the National Defense Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal and Sharpshooter (Rifle M-1). Later, when his youngest grandson, Daniel, was in college with a Korean roommate, my dad would tell him stories about Korea and eating Kimchi, which Daniel grew to like as well eventually after adjusting to the smell. After the war, he met my mother, the former Mary Ann Koza; she claims to have picked him out. She loved to dance and he had two left feet. He loved to take her to the movies, where she would fall asleep. They were married on Aug. 7, 1958, at St. Joseph Church in Everson, where they are still members to this day. My dad called my mother the old battle-axe before he got sick, now I can still hear his voice echoing at my mother's house, "Hey Mar." My dad had many nicknames, Bo, Jasiu, Johnny, PapPap, and to his favorite niece, Carol Wisnewski, it was always Uncle Bucky. His sisters called him Buck because of his love for the Pittsburgh Pirates. When my brothers and I were kids he enlisted the help of the entire neighborhood to turn a ratty lot into a baseball field. He was constantly throwing the ball with the three of us, catching or throwing left- or right-handed, bigger than life for us. An incessant whistler, you always heard him. The Parkinson's took the whistling away, the whistling that had driven us insane is now something surprisingly we miss the most. He retired after working 30 years at PPG Industries in Greensburg at 56 years of age, which enabled him to help his kids make their houses into homes. He was always willing to help everyone. Whenever we run into any of his co-workers from PPG, they always comment that Bo had huge hands. He used to tell everyone that if they weren't careful they would get a Polish sledgehammer with those hands. He was proud of his Polish heritage, loving the pierogies, language and the polkas equally. He teased everyone unmercifully. The first time he ever spoke to his daughter-in-law, Linda, he asked her "How's your liver?" She found that question quite shocking, but eventually got used to him and asked him the same question while he was hospitalized. He gave all of us a great big Jasiu smile. If you were really lucky you got a special nickname from him. My mother's sister, whose name is Dolores, was "Legs." He loved his grandchildren to pieces and it is sad that he will miss his oldest grandson Brian's wedding on June 11. Scotty and he used to work out math problems in their heads, they were both so bright. I think everyone worked on the crossword puzzles in ink that we kept piling up until every line was finished. There was only one granddaughter, Melissa, the light of his life, until nearly two years ago when a great-granddaughter, Rebecca, entered our lives, and now he had two lights. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Tom Boshinsky (Ruby), and sisters, Franny Tlumac (Steve), Margie Schmitz and baby Genevieve, and his son-in-law, John L. King. John is survived by his wife, Mary (Koza); daughter, Michele King and her boyfriend, Gordon Fisher; son, John Richard (Richie) and wife, Linda, and their children, Brian Boshinsky and fiance, Michael White, Melissa Mains (Nathan) and Daniel Boshinsky; and son, Jeffrey and wife, Amy, and their son, Scotty Boshinsky (Crystal) and their baby, Rebecca. One sister remains, Mary Jane (Stanley) Dombrosky, brother-in-law, Ed Schmitz, and tons of nieces and nephews, godchildren and cousins. The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Means, Dr. Martha Haykin, Dr. David Carney and Amedisys Hospice and the caregivers, nurses and therapists from Guardian and AIS for all of the care and compassion over the years for our dad.
It was John's wish not to have a public viewing and burial will be private.
He insisted for many years on sending money to St. Jude's every month. If you wish you can send a donation in John's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , P.O. Box 591, Memphis, TN 38101-9973 or condolence cards to Mary Boshinsky, P.O. Box 69, Everson, PA 15631. Either would be appreciated. Dobranoc Jasiu. Professional arrangements will be provided by the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale, PA 15683 (724-887-5300).
