Obituary

Joe B. Momyer, 92, of Scottdale, passed away peacefully at 5:49 p.m., Saturday, March 5, 2016, at his residence in the Woodcrest Senior Living Community, Scottdale. Joe was born March 11, 1923, in Scottdale, a son of the late Wendell J. and Marion (Bell) Momyer, who passed away Aug. 9, 1958 and April 27, 1993, respectively. Joe was the president of the family business, the former U.S. Casket Co. in Scottdale, for many years and previously worked as a chemist for H.J. Heinz Co. in Pittsburgh. He graduated from Scottdale High School, received a degree in chemistry from Penn State University and a law degree from Stetson University College of Law in Tampa Bay, Fla. A veteran of the Navy, Joe served as a lieutenant during World War II, participated in the Pacific Theater, and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was also a longtime member of Pleasant Valley Country Club, where he enjoyed playing golf regularly. Joe will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him and will be sadly missed by his loving family; his two nephews, Thomas Momyer and his wife, Pam, of Matawan, N.J., and Doug Momyer and his wife, Karen, of Pittsburgh; his great-nieces and great-nephew, Victoria Momyer, Kristin Phillips and Ross Momyer; and members of the Gilbert, Kiefer and Leffler families, who were like close relatives to him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Wendell Momyer, in 1978.
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale (724-887-5300 / www.fergusonfunerals.com / GPS: N40 degrees 06.136, W79 degrees 35.278). Family and friends will be received from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel, where a prayer service and eulogy will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday with Father Alexander Pleban officiating. Graveside committal service and interment will follow in Scottdale Cemetery with full military honors bestowed by the Scottdale-Everson Honor Guard.
