Obituary

Joann H. Shallenberger, 79, a lifelong resident of Vanderbilt, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, in the Oakmont Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Oakmont.

Joann was born Dec. 8, 1937, in Connellsville, a daughter of the late Scott C. and Helen G. (Ghrist) Hare. She was married to Charles A. Shallenberger, who passed away in 2006.

Joann was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She worked for over 20 years at the former Williamhouse Company and was a faithful member of the Vanderbilt United Methodist Church, where she was active with the Aunt Dorothy Class. Joann was also a dedicated member of the DLV Volunteer Fire Department's ladies auxiliary and years ago, she sold Avon products. She enjoyed crafts and being a loving caregiver to her many friends in the Tri-Town area.

Joann will be sadly missed by her loving family: her children, Marcie Shearer of Scottdale and her companion, Johnnie Ray Snyder, Michele Moses and her husband Tom of Lower Burrell, Scott Shallenberger of Vanderbilt, and Charles A. Shallenberger and his wife Dayna of Connellsville; her grandchildren, Casey, Jordan, and Alexander Moses, Sara Shallenberger, Kristin Pavlovich and her husband Matt, and Daniel Shallenberger; her great-grandchildren, Dane and Viviana Pavlovich; and her many sisters and brothers in-law.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Bonnie Shallenberger.

Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the Ralph E. Galley Funeral Home, Railroad and Laughlin Streets, Dawson. Family and friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, with Pastor Marvin Watson officiating.

Chapel committal services and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Bullskin Township.
