Obituary

Joan G. (Gottheld) Mountain, 93 of Whitehall (formerly of Scottdale). Joan Mountain was a proud 93 years old. She was born in Brownsville and upon graduation from high school, entered the Washington Pennsylvania School of Nursing and became a registered nurse. Joan spent the bulk of her career as an obstetrical nurse in Lancaster and Connellsville. She was raised with two sisters, Dorotha and Faith and in 1951 married Harold L. Mountain of Brownsville. Joan and her husband had two daughters, Vickie and Gail. She spent time with her daughters and other young people in roles as Junior Choir Director and Girl Scout Leader. Joan was an active member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Scottdale where she sang in the choir, served on the Board, and was an officer with the United Methodist Women. She was also active in the Scottdale Chorale Society and served as their librarian. Music was very important to Joan and she was blessed with a beautiful soprano voice which she used most often to glorify God. She was also a frequent soloist. Joan spent many hours making costumes and ushering for the Geyer Community Theater in Scottdale, was a dedicated organizer for blood drives for the Red Cross, and had recognition for that work. Many family members treasure the fruits of her needlework from sewing to beautiful knit sweaters and cozy afghans. Joan is survived by her daughters, Vickie Briercheck and Gail Mountain; her grandchildren, Rachel Steele and Edward Briercheck; her great grandchildren, Chloe Steele and Xander Steele; and her sister, Dottie (Patton) Melchiorre. Joan was predeceased by her husband Harold Lloyd Mountain. Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision supervision of the ROBERT B.
