Obituary

Jean Luczka, 89, of Everson, passed away at 1:23 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2021, in Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant, with her three loving sons by her side. Jean was born April 27, 1932, in Connellsville, a daughter of the late Byron and Marie (Layton) Shallenberger. She was married to Bernard A. "Bernie" Luczka, who passed away on May 25, 2011.

Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a graduate of East Huntingdon High School, Class of 1950 and a longtime and faithful member of the Partner Parish of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Everson. She also attended the Jacobs Creek United Methodist Church and was a loyal and active member of the Everson Civic Organization. Jean was employed for many years at McCrory's 5&10 in Scottdale and at Ames Department Store as a clerk. She served as a cub scout leader, volunteered with the former Polish American Club Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed canning and making handmade crafts.

Jean will be sadly missed by her loving family, her three sons, Bernard Luczka of Everson, Ken Luczka and wife Lolita of Dowingtown, and Paul Luczka and wife Diane of Scottdale; her six grandchildren, Elaine Luczka and husband Claude Schrader, Dan Luczka and wife Lauren, Christine Luczka, Melissa Peden and husband Bill, Michael Luczka, and Jason Luczka and wife Kylie; her four great-grandchildren, Coretta, Jaylee, Karter, and Maya; her brother-in-law, Ron Geary of Dawson; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by all of her siblings: infant Sarah Louise Shallenberger, Eva Mae Cunningham, Esther Ruth Cottom, Betty Hixson, Ethel Shallenberger, Edna Geary, and Bill, Jim, Ralph, and Harry Shallenberger.

Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 SPRING ST., SCOTTDALE ( www.fergusonfunerals.com ). Family and friends will be received from 2-8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel where parting prayers will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. Friday in the Partner Parish of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Everson. Graveside committal service and interment will be in the church cemetery.
