Jarad Wayne Prinkey, 43, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Middletown, passed away unexpectedly Friday, April 23, 2021, in UPMC Presbyterian, with his parents and brother by his side.

He was born Feb. 27, 1978, in Marietta, Ohio, to Lucy Ann (Davis) and Gary Wayne Prinkey.

A 1996 alumnus of Middletown High School, Jarad graduated with honors and preceded his education with a bachelor's degree and master's degree in bioengineering from the University of Pittsburgh.

He was always known for trying to think of medical improvements to help others throughout his career as a research bioengineer for the University of Pittsburgh. He had a mind for science and numbers. Being a member of the University Club, he participated in a variety of trivia challenges and was a judge at both state and national science fairs for school-aged children.

Jarad was the friend who would make you feel at home from the moment you met him. He was the kind and caring soul who loved his friends, family and co-workers with all of his heart.

His favorite pastimes include being a certified scuba diver and swimming in the Florida Keys; and traveling the world, from his trips out west to Yellowstone and Jackson Hole to adventures that brought him twice to Germany. He also was known for his passion for reading. Wherever he went, he always had a book in hand. The Youghiogheny River was home, and he loved being there any moment he could.

He is survived by his beloved parents, Lucy and Gary Prinkey; brother, Josh Prinkey and his wife Jamie, as well as their daughter Sofia; maternal grandmother, Shirley Davis and her companion Richard Conn; paternal aunts, Sharon Grimm and her husband Russ, and Anita Barndt and her husband Rick; as well as his greataunt, Jeanie DiSanto and extended family.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Carl Davis; paternal grandparents, Eugene and Gladys Prinkey; and his uncle, Carl Wesley Davis.

Family and friends will be received from 1-8 p.m. Monday and 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, the hour of funeral services, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Marvin Watson and the Rev. Bruce Anthony co-officiating.
