James R. "Jim" Miller Sr., 86, of Scottdale, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2021, in Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Jim was born June 6, 1935, at West Overton in East Huntingdon Township, a son of the late Ralph and Mary Rose (Paugh) Miller.
Jim was a self-employed businessman, an entrepreneur, and owner of the New Central Hotel in Scottdale. He graduated from East Huntingdon High School, Class of 1953, and received his journeyman machinist papers from Thompson Products Ohio in 1954. Jim was a lifelong member of the Partner Parish of Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Scottdale and a 3rd Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #777, VFW Post #7781, Moose Lodge #194, all of Scottdale and if the Eagles were still in town, he would have held membership there too. Jim enjoyed wearing his many Stetson hats, collecting antiques cars, and jumping out of airplanes, including the last time at age 80.
Jim will be sadly missed by his loving family and friends, his two sons, James R. Miller Jr. (Tammy) and Ralph A. Miller (Melanie); his grandchildren, James III, Victor "Vic," Amanda, and Clayton; and several great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Miller; his daughter, Mary Rose Miller; his three sisters, Sarah Nicholson, Catherine Miller, and Eleanor Mae Galensky; and his special companion, Phyllis May.
