Obituary

Hiram C. "H.C." Prinkey Jr., 82, of Stafford, Va., formerly of Scottdale, passed away at 6:25 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, Va. Hiram was born Jan. 31, 1934, in Connellsville, a son of the late Hiram C. and Frances L. (Hawkins) Prinkey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death in 1985 by his first wife, Alberta E. (Thomas) Prinkey, in 1996 by his second wife, Margaret Batten-Prinkey, and by his special companion, Mary DeSell; his son, Jeffrey A. Prinkey; his sister, Shirley Mae Prinkey; his two brothers, John Edward and Donald Francis Prinkey; and his stepdaughter, Barbara Massingill. Hiram, who was referred to as "H," was a retired moldmaker at L.E. Smith Glass, Mt. Pleasant, where he worked for 24 years. He previously was employed at Anchor Hocking Glass, South Connellsville. A veteran of the Korean War, he served as a sergeant in the Marine Corp. He was a graduate of Connellsville High School, Class of 1952, and was a former member of Hickory Square United Methodist Church. He enjoyed the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates, regularly attending spring training in Bradenton, Fla. Hiram will be sadly missed by his loving family; his three grandchildren, Joey, Samantha and Michael Prinkey and their mother, Theresa; his great-grandchild, Gabbie; his sister, Mary Ellen Kenney, of Dunbar; his brother, James A. Prinkey and his wife, Twyla, of Charleroi; his stepdaughters, Cathie Schwartz and her husband, Gary, of Hopwood, and Judy Cummings, of Clayton, N.C.; his stepsons, Danny Schmeck, of Bear Rocks, Jerry Garner, of Princeton, N.C. and Ricky Garner, of Smithfield, N.C.; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, including his special niece, Brenda Stockslager, of Stafford, Va., with whom he lived.
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale (724-887-5300/www.fergusonfunerals.com/GPS: N40 degrees 06.136, W79 degrees 35.278), where family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Pastor Roy Butt officiating. Graveside committal service and interment will follow next to his first wife at Mt. Olive Cemetery, with full military honors bestowed by Scottdale-Everson Honor Guard.
