Helen Bybel Bitner, 98, of Scottdale, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at her residence. Helen was born Jan. 12, 1918, in Scottdale, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary (Pluta) Bybel. She was married to John K. Bitner, who passed away June 3, 1982. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her four brothers, Michael, John, Andrew and Steve Bybel; and her five sisters, Annastasia Macey, Tillie Shimshock, Sophia Bybel, Anna Copeland and Verna Cable. Helen was a devoted sister and aunt and a longtime faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church in Scottdale. She was employed at Anchor Hocking Closure Division in South Connellsville for 28 years, retiring in 1980. Helen also was a member of the Glass, Molder and Pottery Union and a devoted member of the Greater Scottdale Senior Citizens. Helen will be sadly missed by her loving family, her numerous nieces and nephews and her two loyal friends and caregivers, Darlene Osniak, of Everson, and Mary Ann Bentz, of Scottdale.
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Father John Salko and the Rev. Kathy Barnhart co-officiating. Graveside committal service and interment will follow in Scottdale Cemetery next to her late husband.
