Obituary

Harvey J. Mountain, 94 of Dawson (Lower Tyrone Township) passed away at 10:45 PM Wednesday, March 20, 2024 in Hempfield Manor, Hempfield Township. Harvey was born January 10, 1930 at Bakersville, a son of the late John and Edna (Daugherty) Mountain. He was married to Helen F. (Keffer) Mountain, who passed away on December 3, 2001.


Harvey was a Chief Machinist Mate when he retired from the US  Navy and Naval Fleer Reserves with over 20 years service during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. and was also a Master Plumber working in the Plumbers & Pipefitters Union, Local #354. Harvey served as the Commander of the Mount Pleasant American Legion Post #446 and was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and the former Scottdale VFW Post #7781. He enjoyed fishing and years ago hunting.


Harvey will be sadly missed by his loving family; his two sons, Paul Amick and wife Linda of Northport, FL and Harvey J. Mountain Jr. of Columbus, OH; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; several caregiving nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews; along with his special friend, Justin and Lynn Himes and Harper. In addition to her parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his three sisters, Annie, Jennie, and Virginia MountIn and his three brothers, Roy, Jake, and Ralph Mountain.


Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 SPRING STREET, SCOTTDALE (www.fergusonfunerals.com). Family and friends will be received from 2-6 PM Wednesday and 10-11 AM Thursday in the funeral home chapel where Full Military Honors will be accorded at 11 AM Thursday. Internment next to his late wife in Dickerson Run Cemetery will be private. The family extends appreciation to the Hempfield Manor and Excela Hospice for their loving care.
