G. Gregory Smalley, 69, of Scottdale, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Sunday, April 23, 2017, in Scottdale Manor and Rehabilitation Center, East Huntingdon Township. Greg was born Sept. 2, 1947, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late George G. and Gertrude (Bryan) Smalley. He married Rebecca Sue "Becky" (Tarr) Smalley on March 15, 1997. Greg was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He worked as a technician at Powerex in Youngwood, retiring after 10 years of service. Previously he was employed at Volkswagen of America and at Duraloy in Scottdale. Greg graduated from Southmoreland High School, class of 1965, and received an associate degree in business from WCCC. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War, stationed at the Army Security Agency as a communications intercept operator. He also served in the Army Reserve and the PA National Guard as an intelligence analyst. A member of the First Baptist Church in Scottdale, Greg was also a member of the BPO Elks Lodge No. 777 in Scottdale and enjoyed his grandchildren, walking on the bike trail and working in his yard and fish pond. Greg will be sadly missed by his loving family, his wife of 20 years, Rebecca Sue "Becky" (Tarr) Smalley; his and Becky's children, Tara Stage and her husband Charles, of Upper St. Clair, Perry Spires and his wife Melanie, of Mt. Pleasant, and Emily Gigliotti and her husband Nathan, of Everson; his seven grandchildren, Becca Stage, Christian Stage, Mia Gigliotti, Owen Spires, Lily Spires, Olivia Gigliotti and Julia Gigliotti; his brother, Robert Smalley and his wife Dolly, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; his sister, Sue Chess and her husband Dan, of Uniontown; and numerous nieces , nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of ROBERT B. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel, where funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday with Pastor Dale White officiating. Full military honors will be bestowed by the Scottdale-Everson Honors Guard.
