“Pat” Ottenberg
March 17, 1926 – December 9, 2020
Gerald R. "Pat" Ottenberg, 94, of Scottdale, formerly of Alverton, passed away at 1:40 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020, in Jo-Ella's Personal Care Home, East Huntingdon Township, where he had been residing for the past six years. Pat was born March 17, 1926, at Old Meadow in East Huntingdon Township, a son of the late Gustave and Oatha (Layton) Ottenberg. He married Hester (Shandorf) Ottenberg, on Feb. 24, 1951. and she passed away on Aug. 15, 2005.
Pat and Hester lived near Alverton on the former H.C. Frick property, which had 17 acres and was Hester's home place. Pat enjoyed remodeling and working outside the year round. He was a graduate of East Huntingdon High School, Class of 1944 and served in the U.S. Army from 1944-46 at the Infantry Training School in South Carolina. From 1948-1965, he was in the Air Force Reserves with one year of active duty at McDill AFB in Tampa during the Korean Conflict and from 1965-1984 in the Air Force Reserves in Norfolk. He retired with 37 years of service and later worked at Westinghouse Electric's switchgear Division, retiring once again with 34 years of service as a senior electrical layout draftsman. Pat was active in several senior citizens groups, and was elected second vice president in the Connellsville Chapter No. 3963. He was a loyal and faithful member of the Scottdale Church of Christ. Pat was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 446, Mt. Pleasant and was deputy commander of the 31st District.
Pat will be sadly missed by his loving family, his niece, Juanita June Snyder of Champion; her nephew, Kenneth Eicher of Mt. Pleasant; and several loving cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by all 10 of his siblings, sisters, Louise Eicher, Ruby Wanda Winterhalter, Opal Fern Ohrn, and June Mollie Wheeler; and brothers, Donald, Kenneth, Glen, Clark, Marvin, and Billy Burns Ottenberg.
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 SPRING ST., SCOTTDALE ( 724-887-5300 / www.fergusonfunerals.com ). Family and friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel where funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Josh Boyd officiating, followed by full military honors bestowed by the Mt. Pleasant American Legion No. 446. Final resting place will be in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Tarrs. Love Lasts Forever!
