George Glenn Smith, 74, of Dawson,went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Dec. 9, 2019, in Westmoreland Manor, Hempfield Township.
George was born July 24, 1945, at the former Frick Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, a son of Roy Smith of Dawson and the late Martha (Gault) Smith (1997).
George was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He was employed for many years as a security guard with Pinkerton Security and at the Perryopolis Flea Market. He also worked as a policeman for Dawson and Perryopolis boroughs and in Washington, D.C. and Alexandria, Va. George was a member of the East Liberty Presbyterian Church in Vanderbilt, where he served as a former deacon, and was a graduate of Frazier High School. He enjoyed watching TV, listening to the radio, and smoking his pipe. George had the biggest heart for the love of his dogs!
George will be sadly missed by his loving family: his four children, Lisa (Smith) Stimmel and husband Daniel of Dawson, Cherie (Smith) Mc- Gill and husband Ronnie of Smock, Glenda (Smith) Begemann and husband Matt of Bates City, Mo., and Glenn Smith and wife Tina of Uniontown; his 12 grandchildren; his great-grandson; his three sisters, Mary Ann Lesko of Ruffsdale, Dorothy Yungworth of Scottdale, and Dawn Hayes of Dawson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his infant brother, Wendell Smith (1950).
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the Ralph E. Galley Funeral Home, 501 Railroad St., Dawson, 724- 529-2611 , www.fergusonfunerals.com . Family and friends will be received from 2-6 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel, where funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, with Pastor Ken Biller officiating.
Private interment will be in Cochran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the family can be made to the funeral home.
