Obituary

Genevieve (Zarafino) Coughanour, 99, of Scottdale, passed away at 12:43 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, 2023, in Amber House, Mt. Pleasant. Jennie was born Jan. 3, 1924, in Luxor, a daughter of the late Joseph Zarafino and Lucia (Cirelli) Zarafino Rizza. She married William Clyde Coughanour May 2, 1943, and he passed away Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2003. Jennie was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of The Partner Parish of St. John The Baptist Roman Catholic Church, in Scottdale. Jennie was a graduate of Scottdale High School, Class of 1942, and served as a nurse's aide with Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg, retiring in 1986. Jennie was a fun spirited soul and a spitfire. She truly was one of a kind. Strong willed and always speaking her mind, she left her mark on everyone who was lucky enough to spend time with her. Her personality lit up a room and brought joy to everyone. Dancing and singing were two of her favorite things. No one in the family was ever officially married until she sang "Tiny Bubbles" to them at their wedding. She loved being a social butterfly and when she wasn't traveling, bowling or swimming in her pool, you could always find her hanging out with her lady friends late night at Wise's. We are so grateful to know that she was herself until the end. In typical Jennie fashion, she was still as spunky as ever and spent Monday morning giving the staff at Amber House her usual shenanigans that they all enjoyed. She had an enormous heart and devoted much of her life to taking care of other people. Jennie will be remembered most for that loving care she gave to so many and all the heart she shared with her family and friends. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her. Jennie will be sadly missed by her loving family; her daughter, Carol D. Tacconi; her son, James A. Coughanour and wife, Joyce; her four grandchildren, Joseph Tacconi and wife, Kim, Jennifer Tacconi and husband, Eric, David Coughanour and Mariesa Coughanour; her three great-grandchildren, Sage Guynn, Genevieve Coughanour and Josephine Coughanour; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, David C. Coughanour, July 9, 2010; her three sisters, Virginia Houck, Dolores Rizza and Josephine Boyer; her three brothers, Samuel Rizza, Angelo "Buzzy" Rizza and Murphy Zarafino; an infant sister, Mary Rose; and an infant brother, Angelo. Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale, www.fergusonfunerals.com. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, the time of prayers of transfer in the funeral home chapel.
