Fred H. Grote, 80, of Scottdale, passed away at 2:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017, in the Harmon House Convalescent Center, Mt. Pleasant.

Fred was born March 28, 1937, in Minneapolis, Minn., a son of the late Fred W. and Dorothy Helen (Stern) Grote.

He married the former LaVonne E. Hahn on Aug. 17, 1957.

Fred was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a salesman and self-employed business owner and a graduate of Rush City High School, Rush City, Minn. Fred was a longtime and faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Scottdale, was active in the church choir and Sunday school, and was a member of the Scottdale Kiwanis Club. He loved to golf, was a great storyteller, and was a loyal customer of the "Breakfast Club" at Tartal's Restaurant in Scottdale.

Fred will be sadly missed by his loving family: his wife of 60 years, LaVonne E. (Hahn) Grote; his six children, Darcy Vallejos of Albuquerque, N.M., Mike Grote and wife Deb of Madelia, Minn., Sarah Martin and husband Neil of Waldorf, Md., David Grote and wife Annette of Iuka, Miss., Nancy Uber and husband Lloyd of Scottdale, and Fred W. Grote and wife Sherry of Connellsville; his grandchildren, Jennifer Cook, Rachel Pierce, Brandon Uber, Elizabeth Grote, Richard and Angelica Vallejos, Emily Grote, Katie Yarger, Madeline Grote, Marie Norris, Missy Fenske, Valerie Schafer, and Brenda Hozerland; and his four great-grandchildren, Bryce, Natalie, Kaylee, and Cassandra.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Frances Dohrmann.

Family and friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, the hour of service, in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Jeffrey Welsh officiating.
