Obituary

Frances B. (Mattingly) Phillips, 98, formerly of Scottdale, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2021 in Hillside Estates, Dunbar Township. Frances was born August 22, 1923 in Kentucky, a daughter of the late Charles Edward and Marie Aline Mattingly. She married George Phillips on June 14, 1944 and he passed away on February 24, 2019.

Frances was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, and aunt.  She was a longtime and faithful member of the Partner Parish of Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Scottdale and a active member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Lambing #314. She enjoyed sewing, bingo, and an occasional trip to the casino.

Frances will be sadly missed by her loving family: her three daughters, Michelle Cannillo and husband Fred of Scottdale, Claudia Guldenschuh and husband William of New Stanton, and Deborah Brownfield and husband Charles of Scottdale; her five grandchildren, J. Bryan Quinn and wife Robin, Kelli Leonard and husband Charles, Jeffrey Bell, Charles Brownfield and wife Tamara, and Mark Brownfield and wife Lorelei; her eight great grandchildren, Tyler Leonard and wife Jennafer, Rebecca Wingrove and husband Matt, Alex Leonard and wife Samantha, Jacob Quinn and wife Ashlee, Kaylee Bell, Olivia Brownfield, Max Brownfield, and Nate Brownfield; her five great-great grandchildren, Nash and Harper Quinn, Elliana and Hallie Wingrove, and Ellis Leonard; her sister, Diane Devine of Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Beverly; and her siblings, Dolores Blady, Marjorie Ballard, Monica Ballard, Aline Vittitow, Evelyn Fenwick, Elaine Reynolds, and James, David, and Charles Mattingly.

Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 SPRING STREET , SCOTTDALE ( 724-887-5300 / www.fergusonfunerals.com / GPS: N40 degrees 06.136, W79 degrees 35.278). Family and friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Monday and 12-1 PM Tuesday in the funeral home chapel. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 PM Tuesday with Rev Phillip Lavery facilitating. Private graveside committal service and interment will follow in the St. John's RC Church Cemetery. Family suggests masks and in lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Frances's wishes may send contributions to Children's Hospital, 4401 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15224 . The family would like to extend its sincere appreciation and gratitude to the present and past staff at Hillside Estates for being "Frannie's" family when we couldn't be there and Suncrest Hospice staff, especially Charlie, Tony, and Francesca for their kind and compassionate care extended to mom and family.
