Fern Marie (Shallenberger) Murray, 88, of Scottdale, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 11, 2022, in Wilmington Hospital, Wilmington, Del. Fern was born Sept. 26, 1933, in Owensdale, Fayette County, a daughter of the late Chris and Pauline (Fullem) Shallenberger. She married Charles "Mike" Murray on April 12, 1951, and he passed away on March 1, 2003. Fern was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a longtime and faithful member of Scottdale Church of Christ. She loved her church family, her exceptional neighbors and so many Scottdale residents she knew from her lifetime in the area, who she would speak with as they passed by her famous front porch or along her walking routes years ago. Fern enjoyed baking, cooking, camping and anything she could do for and with her family. Fern will be sadly missed by her loving family: her three children, Charles "Mike" Murray Jr. and wife, Frances, of Wilmington, Del., Karen Marie Forsyth (Matt Pavlovich), of Fox Chapel, and Gerald "Jan" Murray and wife, Laurie, of Wilmington, Del.; her six grandchildren, Charles "Mike" Murray III, Bethany Hauch and Caitlin McCarthy, Jennifer Heinz, and Meghan and Benjamin Murray; her great-grandchildren, Julia, Michelle, Josie, Joshua, Maisie and Riker; and her siblings, John Shallenberger, of Scottdale, Samuel Shallenberger, of Connellsville, Blanche Mardis, of Connellsville, Alberta Aberegg, of Maine, Betty Fisher, of Connellsville, and Paula Porterfield (Ed), of Connellsville. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Benny, Chuck, Chris, Bob, Gerry, Dorothy and Ted. Family and friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in Scottdale Church of Christ, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Mike Hazelton officiating.
