Obituary

Emily Ann Koval, 99 of Scottdale passed away at 10:07 am Tuesday, August 30, 2022 in Westmoreland Manor, Hempfield Township. Emily was born Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1922 at Mammoth, Mount Pleasant Township, a daughter of the late Karl Stanek and Marie (Owczarzi) Stanek Kowlaczyk, who passed away in 1922 and 1966 respectively. She was married to Nicholas "Lefty" Koval, who passed away on July 31, 1971.

Emily was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a devout Catholic and a longtime and faithful member of Saint John Byzantine Church in Scottdale, serving in the Altar Society. She also attended The Partner Parish of Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Scottdale where she served as a Eucharistic minister. Years ago, she worked as a nurse's aide at Seton Hill and organized and participated in many local prayer groups.

Emily will be sadly missed by her loving family; her three children, John M. Koval and wife Patricia of Greensburg, Carolyn Garretson and husband Dr. David Garretson of Mount Pleasant, SC, and David Koval and wife Maryann of Fernandina Beach, FL; her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Kristen Garretson Gaskins and husband Clint (Marley and Cohen Gaskins) of Mount Pleasant, SC, Brian Koval and wife Amanda (Katherine and Benjamin Koval) of Bentonville, AR, Scott Koval of Indianapolis, IN, Christine Koval and husband Aaron Wilbur of Atlanta, GA, Erin Boucant and husband Ludovic of Chateau Thierry, France, Mark Koval of Pearl River, NY, and Sarahann Koval of Atlanta GA. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Andrew Kowlaczyk (1968); and her siblings, Charles Stanek (1988), Rose Wisniewski (1992), Joseph Stanek (2006), Mary Streyle, Frank Stanek (1981), John Kowalczyk (1996), and Alice Mehallick (2005).

Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 SPRING STREET, SCOTTDALE

(www.fergusonfunerals.com). Family and friends will be received from 2-6 PM Friday in the funeral home chapel where a Parastas Service will be held at 6 PM Friday. Divine Liturgy will be intoned at 9:30 AM Saturday in Saint John Byzantine Church with Rev. Oleh Seremchuk as celebrant followed by a graveside committal service and interment in the Parish Cemetery. Memorials may be offered to Saint John Byzantine Church, 525 Porter Avenue, Scottdale, PA 15683 in her memory. Love Lasts Forever!
