Edward J. Garlowich,Sr., 69, of Scottdale (East Huntingdon Township), passed away Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018 in Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant.
Ed was born April 10, 1948 in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Edward and Sarah Katherine (Eutsey) Garlowich.
He married the former Marlene Hixson on March 11, 1967.
Ed was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, Class of 1967 and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Ed was a Purple Heart recipient and served as an E-6 during two tours of the Vietnam War, during a military career that spanned 21 years. Ed held memberships with the Brookman-Hernley VFW Post #7781 and the Thomas Lewellan American Legion Post #240, both in Scottdale, where he served as a past officer and participant with the Burial Detail Honor Guard.
Ed will be sadly missed by his loving family: his wife of 49 years, Marlene (Hixson) Garlowich; his two sons, Edward J. Garlowich Jr. of Womelsdorf and Timothy B. Garlowich and his wife Anita of Monrovia, Md.; his two grandsons, Timothy Bryan Garlowich II and his wife Sandra and Brad Allen Garlowich; his great-granddaughter, Lacey Lynn; his brother, Anthony "Tony" Garlowich and his wife Kathey of Alabama; his half-brother, Michael Garlowich of Scottdale; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Garlowich.
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the Robert B. Ferguson Funeral Home, 105 Spring St., Scottdale, 724-887-5300 /www.fergusonfunerals.com. Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel where funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Jack Lucas officiating. Full military honors will be bestowed by the Scottdale-Everson Honor Guard.
