Edgar R. Rolla, 87, of Scottdale, passed away at Wednesday, March 9, 2016, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. Edgar was born Aug. 2, 1928, in East Huntingdon Township, a son of the late William and May (Sutor) Rolla. He married the former Lucille Louise Costello, Nov. 27, 1952. Edgar was a devoted, quite humble husband, father and brother. He worked for many years as a machinist at Westmoreland Manufacturing Co. and at the former U.S. Casket Co., both in Scottdale. Edgar and Lucille were longtime faithful members of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Scottdale. He also was a member of the church dartball team and held the league record for the highest batting average for 50 years. He was a Korean War veteran, having served with the Army as a drill sergeant, was an active member of East Huntingdon Sportsman's Association, a graduate of East Huntingdon High School and enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and repairing cars. Edgar will be sadly missed by his loving family: his wife of 63 years, Lucille Louise (Costello) Rolla; his daughter, Martha Banks and her husband, Georg, of Scottdale; his sister, Virginia Ridenour; his sisters-in-law, Betty Rolla and Mabel Rolla, all of Scottdale; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William and James Clyde Rolla; and a brother-in-law, Herbert Ridenour.
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel. Additional viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Scottdale, where funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, with Pastor Daniel F. Clark officiating. Chapel committal service and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Bullskin Township.
