Dorothy Wagner, 101, formerly of Scottdale, departed this life for Life Eternal on Friday, July 31, 2015. She has been storing up treasures in heaven by her life of love and service to all those in her life and to Her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Dorothy Jane (Newcomer) Wagner was born Nov. 17, 1913, at home in Lower Tyrone Township, a daughter of the late George and Louella (Fretts) Newcomer. She married Merle "Jack" Wagner from Connellsville, they lived at 315 S. Hickory Street in Scottdale for 39 years of their married life, where she was a devoted wife, mother, neighbor, church member and citizen. Dorothy was a graduate of East Huntingdon High School, class of 1932, and attended WV Wesleyan College, studying English literature and home economics. She worked at Waugaman Insurance Agency prior to her marriage, at Southmoreland School District as a teacher's aide, and at home sewing and tailoring. Dorothy was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Scottdale for more than 80 years where she was active in many capacities a few of which were teaching Sunday school, Bible studies, and being part of Women's Fellowship. Her interests were her faith, family, service to others, especially children, sewing, baking, gardening, bridge, and in later life painting. She and Jack moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1985 after the death of their son, David. In 1989, Jack passed away, and in 1996, she moved to Cape Cod, Mass. to be close to her daughter, Becky Minninger, and son-in-law, Steve. She made a new life for herself in Rock Harbor Village, Orleans, Mass., where she enjoyed her family, church, neighbors, painting and walking for 15 years. In 2011, her health necessitated her move to Liberty Commons Nursing Home where she made friends and received wonderful care. In addition to her parents, husband and son, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Newcomer. She leaves behind her daughter, Becky and husband, Steve Minninger, of Harwich, Mass.; her step-daughter, Katy Hazelton and family; her step-son, Steven and wife; her daughter-in-law, Debbie Wagner, of Greensburg; her niece, Saundra Wadley, of Florida; her nephew, Bob Newcomer and his ex-wife and children of Pennsylvania; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews; and several dear cousins. All who knew her would laud her inspiring long life of love, faith and devotion. Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside committal service at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, in Scottdale Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Trinity United Methodist Church, Scottdale with Pastor Harry Speakman officiating.
