Doris A. (Johnston) Taylor, 95, of Mt. Pleasant (formerly of Scottdale), passed away at 10:50 a.m., Sunday, June 17, 2018, in the Harmon House Convalescent Center, Mt. Pleasant.
Doris was born May 4, 1923, in East Huntingdon Township, a daughter of the late Hale W. and Polly Ann (Chain) Johnston, who passed away in 1965 and 1981 respectively.
She was married to Ralph J. Taylor, who passed away on July 12, 1987.
Doris was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She previously was a resident of Scottdale Plaza Apartments and years ago was employed at Uptegraff Transformers in Scottdale. Doris graduated from East Huntingdon High School, Class of 1941 and was a faithful and active member of Jacobs Creek United Methodist Church and later the Everson Evangelical Church where she taught Sunday school and was a prayer warrior. She enjoyed her family and personal bible study.
Doris will be sadly missed by her loving family: her three daughters, Sharon Sue Kendall and husband James of Blairsville (formerly of Java, Indonesia), Genie Ann Hamilton and husband Danny of Smithfield, and Carol Rae Sipe and husband William of Jones Mills; her two grandchildren James Taylor Kendall and wife Winda of Manila, Philippines and Heather Michelle Hodge and husband Steve of Mt. Pleasant; her four great-grandchildren, Samantha Mae Hodge, Leona Ruth Hodge, Luke Taylor Hodge, and James Nawawi Kendall; her brother, Wallace Johnston of Scottdale; her sister-in-law, Joan (Adair) Johnston of Fairfax,
Va.; and her cousins, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Cornell Johnston Kendall (July 2, 2015); her siblings, Jane Arment, Leslie Johnston, William Johnston, Rita Cook, and three infant siblings.
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the Robert B. Ferguson Funeral Home, 105 Spring St., Scottdale 724-887- 5300/www.fergusonfunerals.com. Family and friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday with The Rev. Jake Cirigliano and The Rev. Mike Alfieri, co-officiating. Graveside committal service and interment will follow in Scottdale Cemetery next to her late husband.
