Doris Jean Rizza, 77 of Mount Pleasant (East Huntingdon Township), formerly of Scottdale passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at her residence. Doris was born August 21, 1945 in Scottdale, a daughter of the late Charles Carl and Kathryn L. (Copenhaver) Suhan. She was married to Angelo "Buzzy" Rizza, who passed away on October 26, 1991.
Doris was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was employed for many years as a licensed practical nurse with Westmoreland Manor in Hempfield Township. She was a longtime member of The Partner Parish of Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Scottdale. Doris was a graduate of Scottdale High School, Class of 1963 and served as a volunteer with the Salvation Army for many years. She enjoyed painting, drawing, baking, traveling, gardening, and trips with friends to the casino. She was a member of the Ya Ya Sisters Book Club and cherished her loyal dog, Abby!
Doris will be sadly missed by her loving family; her three children, Joseph Rizza and wife Lisa of Cape Coral, FL, Susan Messer and husband Timothy of Cranberry Township, and Steven Rizza and wife Crystal of Scottdale; her seven grandchildren, Ceairra Rizza, Joshua Rizza, Steven Rizza Jr., Matthew Messer, Nathan Rizza, Kathryn Messer, and Megan Messer; her siblings, Alice Haney of Connellsville, Alan "Babe" Suhan and wife Sheila of Scottdale , and Don Suhan and wife Kathy of Brookville ; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Suhan.
Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 SPRING STREET, SCOTTDALE ( www.fergusonfunerals.com ). Family and friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Friday in the funeral home chapel where parting prayers will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 AM Saturday in The Partner Parish of Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Scottdale with Rev. Father Elmer Alforgue as celebrant. Final resting place will be in the Church Cemetery next to her late husband. Memorials may be made to: St. Jude Children's Hospital. Love Lasts Forever!
